Description: Bears-Filling in a ding how
to do the knit pieces, patches, fur on the hat and bear. Painting the outline.
NOTE: Save
your work often. I suggest you read the entire tutorial,
before you start.

in this tutorial, it means right click. Screen Shot is
abbreviated ss.

You can drag this pointer as you go to keep track of your place in the tutorial.

Lets Begin
Filling the hat and scarf sections.
-
Open the .ufo file of the two bears sitting side by side I
included in the zip file. Save this bear as a .ufo file but
rename it or just put your initials on it to make it yours.
As we go along the tutorial you can save your work
frequently.
We will do the hat section of the bear on the right side
first. We are going to be filling sections of the bear
so we need to make sure all the lines are connected with no
breaks. [the outside outline] This bears hat has a break so
we will fix it first.
Select the paint brush using the settings below and draw
your line in Mode to connect the lines. When you're finished
with the small line click out of Mode. Keep the line
selected hold your shift key down and select the bears
outline and merge as a single object. If you prefer you can
select them both by using the Layer Manager.
Note: You will have to do this where ever you have a broken
outline. The bears outline is in 2D because at the end we
will be painting over the lines in a color matching the
filled in areas. ;0) When you merge the line drawn, with
the outline of the bears, it will become an object

-
Click the Enter Key on your keyboard, to deselect. We will do the top of
the hat for the bear on the right side. Use the Magic Wand
and touch the inside of the hat area. Using the settings
from the screen shot below.

Rc Expand/Shrink -expand one pixel. Keep original soft edge
is also checked. Click ok

Rc Convert to object.
Fill with a color so you can see it easily. I
used blue because that is the color of my knitted hat.
Click on the Enter Key to
Deselect.
-
We will continue with the scarf on the same bear. It
has six main pieces of scarf, depending on if you want
to do the number 3 section in different colors like my
preview at the top of the page.
With the Magic Wand still selected click on the long scarf
piece in the middle.
Repeat #2. instructions Rc Expand/Shrink etc., those steps I
wrote in green.

You can see the pieces I numbered in the screen shot [ss]
you can do these in any order you want to because they are
all done the same way with the exception of where I show #3.
You will notice a sort of rectangle piece, that part is a
patch on the scarf and we will do it later. Also you will
see lines and a middle section that has circles in it. The
circles are red inside, the area around the circles or the
center, is blue and you will have a yellow on top and
bottom. Let me show you in the ss below. This shows the area
between the circles that you need to click on with the magic wand. I enlarged it 200% so I could do this step
and then I expanded it 1 pixel and took the
ss so you can
see better where you have to click.

Make sure the Magic Wand Mode is set on Plus. click on the
areas shown above and continue on Repeating # 2.
