Tutorial: How to fill a template overlay. This was a blank page that only showed the design in black lines. It was not a 'Click and Fill' with those sections already done as white parts between the lines.
Version: PI 10 or any version

Small version of the finished template using my own designed background tiles.

Instructions

Open PI and bring in a New Paper with the settings below. I am doing this for an 8x8 inch sheet of paper.

Set your Resolution to 300. The size will show a 2400x2400 pixel size. You can minus it down if you wish.

Bring your template into your PI program. The template I am working from is made for a 16x16 in page, showing the size in pixels at 3783x3783. Make sure your Keep Aspect Ratio is locked.

Click on the template and resize it to 2400x2400. Put your new paper along side of the template. Click on the template  and hold it down as you simply drag it off and on to the new page. Select your pick tool   and Center both.

You may now close out the template. In the box that will appear on your screen it will ask if you want to Save Changes-be sure to choose NO.

Between the first set of lines to get a color or design background select your Magic wand. Located on the left     side in the strip of tools.

Use the settings below. When you click on the area to fill you will have dancing lines around that area showing the selection.

Right click and Convert to object.

At the top bar go to Edit/ Fill and select a color, gradient, texture or an image from your computer.

Here I used a texture.

Just continue on one space at a time in any fill of your choice. Note: By only doing one area at a time you can use this same template when it is finished over and over. You would just need to select a color piece and change it to the new color of your choice.

After you have done the first color switch to your Transform tool and click in a white area not yet colored. Then go back to the Magic Wand Tool to select the next area you want to color. You simply go back and forth as above until all is filled in. If you forget this step simply undo it then proceed.

When you have finished your first color please go to File/ and Save this as a .ufo Then save your work several times so as not to loose your work as you proceed and one last time when you finish.

To change the color on the pattern lines just select it and use the color of your choice. You can change the template lines to better match your photo or to match your fill color.

To insert a photo in your oval shape bring it into PI first and make sure its large enough to fit. Right click and copy that photo. You may close out the photo as you no longer need it.

Using you pick tool again click on  the oval area. Then go to Edit/Paste and Fit into Selection. You will have to have a good quality photo to this. Click on the Enter Key on the keyboard to deselect. Save as a .jpg when you are finished.

I hope you have enjoyed using this tutorial. Please let me know if you need additional help.
