Description: This is mainly for the people that have to send me zip files after making their things for the Scrapbook Mega Kit. From the making of your folders to hold SB elements and paper to putting those folders in a zip file using WinZip is explained. If you only need the zipping of a file look at the 3rd screenshot.

Many have asked me how do I make zip files of the things I made for the monthly Scrapbook Mega Kit. Hopefully this will make it a little simpler for you. I would like to keep all of the zip files made not to exceed 3.50MB's if this is at all possible for you to do.

Make a folder somewhere on your computer and name it Sept-MK or what month it is for. Then make 2 subfolders. When you have made your items you should have 2 [sub] folders, one for your elements/embellishments and one for your tiles /papers to start with. Name these properly example: initials-sept07mk-elements and initials-sept07mk-tiles. When you are finished with what you are making make a preview of what you have made no larger than 600pixels on one side. This will show a list of what you have made, save this preview as a jpg to show on the board post. Please make sure that your name or initials are on everything you make to put in your folders. People that unzip your work need to know who made it.

Your folders will look something like this, the folders you see here are Barbara Ann Thomas's there are 2 folders and her preview shown here. I will say here that I do prefer you to make at least 2 folders keeping all your papers or tiles for backgrounds in a separate folder. This makes it easier for people to collect what you have especially when they are on dial up connections.

You see my main folder below I called it 0-September [I have a long list of months] then I show Barbara T. I know most of you already have a system of your own to save your folders and sub folders. The point to make clear is that you have 2 sub folders one for your elements and one for your papers or tiles.

If you hold your mouse over the folder it will tell you how many MB's you have in your folder as shown in the screen shot below. It also has a partial list under that but I only want you to understand that you can see the size of what is in your folder. This element folder has 2.25 MB's the other folder of tiles has 467 KB. I have only shown one in my screen shot below.

We only need to make 2 zip files for this kit, one for elements and one for the tiles. If your folder had 3.5 or more MB's you need to make one more folder naming the folder like the first one was with the number 2 at the end, like this: bat-sept07mk-elements2 then put some of the elements in that element2 folder. After you have made a few of these folders for your kits you may put the name of a single object like frame instead of elements but if your beginning this and its your first or second kit the word elements is just fine to use. [bat-sept07mk-frame]

Here is what you will see when you start to make your Zip File, in the screen shot below. You just Right Click on your folder and you will get a drop down box. Since my computer has WinRar and WinZip on it you will see those 2 on the list. I am using WinZip for these instructions since it is the one used most often. Click on the WinZip area and you will see a pop out list.

Select the one that has the name of your folder on it which is the 2nd one on the list and circled in red on my screenshot.

#3Screenshot- Making your Zip: From here down will show anyone how to zip something up.

I got the pop up shown below click on ok.

Your zip file is now made and you will see it in this case right next to the preview of the kit.

It will have the correct name on it also.

If you hold your mouse over the zip file you just made you will see the contents of what is inside as shown in my screenshot below.

This was fairly easy to do so just make your 2nd zip file for the tiles folder in the same manner.

I hope I have taken out some of the mystery of making a zip file using WinZip.

If you just did these for a Mega Kit all you have to do now is post your preview of what you made to the SB Forum and email me your zip files. [You can send me up to 5MB in one email. Put your Zip files in the email as an Attachment.] Please be aware that some email companies will not allow you to send over 2 MB's in your email in which case your zips when you make them have to be 2MB's or under. I have had 2 ladies in the past with that problem so this note is so you will know.

Now you can smile and hopefully understand how the zips are done. Any questions just email me. My heart felt thanks to my friend Barbara in the help she gave me and her input, to make this tutorial.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as I liked writing it for you.
If you wish to do so, post your results in the Scrapbook and Crafts forum of the
PhotoImpact International Bulletin Board. Thank you!
